Where the city meets the plains.
Far Northeast is Lubbock's largest area by land — the Skyview and Bluesky neighborhoods near the airport give way to open country along the US 62/82 corridor, running northeast toward the separate city of Idalou. City-edge living with room to breathe.
City edge, open country.
Far Northeast is the largest of Lubbock's areas by land, and the most varied. It runs from the city-edge residential areas near the airport — Skyview, Clayton Carter, Bluesky, and Chapel Hill — out along the US 62/82 corridor, the old Clovis Highway, into unincorporated county land dotted with rural communities like Acuff and Roosevelt, and on toward the separate city of Idalou. Three school districts cross it. That range is the thing to understand before you look here.
- City and county, side by side. Inside the city limits you'll find low-density residential neighborhoods; beyond them, the zone opens into agricultural and unincorporated county land along the highway. They're bought and taxed differently — we'll tell you which is which.
- Three school districts. Lubbock ISD serves the in-city areas, Idalou ISD serves Idalou and the north/northeast county, and Roosevelt ISD serves the south and southeast — more districts than any other zone in Lubbock. The lines run through this zone, so verify by address.
- Idalou is its own city. Not a Lubbock neighborhood — a separate incorporated town with its own government and schools. We cover it on its own page.
The city-edge areas of Far Northeast Lubbock.
Four in-city and city-edge residential areas, near the airport and along the US 62/82 corridor — all Lubbock ISD. Here's how they compare on the facts that hold steady.

Beyond these city-edge areas, much of Far Northeast is agricultural and unincorporated county land, dotted with long-standing rural communities — Acuff, a historic South Plains farming community in the southeast, and Roosevelt, along the southern edge, which has its own school district. Buying rural acreage works differently from buying in a platted subdivision: water, septic, road maintenance, and county taxes all come into play, and we'll walk you through every piece of it.
And then there's Idalou.
Northeast along US 62/82, about seven miles out, the open country gives way to Idalou — a small incorporated city, not a Lubbock neighborhood. It has its own city government, its own Idalou ISD school district, and its own property-tax structure, so it's worth understanding on its own terms rather than as part of Lubbock.
- Its own schools. Idalou ISD runs its elementary, middle, and high schools on a shared campus in town — separate from Lubbock ISD.
- Its own city & taxes. Idalou sets its own municipal tax rate and services; confirm the current figures directly with the city.
- We cover it separately. Idalou has its own SGR page so we can do it justice as a town in its own right.
Drag races and glider history.
For a far-flung corner of the map, Far Northeast has two genuinely distinctive destinations — one loud, one historic.
A quarter-mile NHRA dragstrip southeast of Idalou, running on a former airstrip since 1972 — a regional motorsports destination with a 50-plus-year history.
Near the airport, one of the few museums in the country devoted to WWII military glider aviation, with a restored WACO CG-4A glider and the story of the pilots who trained near Lubbock.
The old Clovis Highway is the area's spine — a direct line into Lubbock's retail and medical core one way, and out toward the open South Plains the other.
Two things that change with the line.
PID & taxes: city vs. county vs. Idalou
No City of Lubbock Public Improvement Districts are located in the Far Northeast zone. But because this area spans three tax situations — inside Lubbock city limits, unincorporated Lubbock County, and the separate city of Idalou — the tax line on a given property depends entirely on which one it sits in.
We confirm the jurisdiction for any address and pull a property-specific tax certificate before you offer, so there are no surprises on the closing statement — especially important on rural and county parcels.
Schools: three districts, verify by address
Far Northeast spans three school districts — more than any other zone in Lubbock. Lubbock ISD serves the in-city areas (Skyview, Clayton Carter, Bluesky, Chapel Hill); Idalou ISD serves the city of Idalou and the north and northeast county; and Roosevelt ISD serves the southern and southeastern county, including Acuff. The lines run through the zone and campuses are assigned by address, so we verify before relying on any school assignment.
